Julio Cesar Chavez Jr made a $45 million deal with Canelo Alvarez ahead of their huge fight
Before their huge fight in 2017, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Canelo Alvarez made a huge $45 million deal. This coming Saturday, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr looks to become just the second fighter to beat internet sensation turned boxer, Jake Paul, when the two clash in a huge boxing fight in California.
Throughout his short tenure as a professional boxer, Paul has faced doubters the entire time, and ahead of his fight this Saturday, the 28-year-old has sent a message to the fans who continue to count him out.
Having broken several milestones throughout his career, ‘The Problem Child’ has revealed that the only goal he has left in his career is to become a world champion.
And that run to a world title will begin against who he believes will be his toughest test to date in Chavez Jr, who over his career has shown his incredible Mexican fighting spirit.
Chavez Jr made a huge $45 million deal with Canelo Alvarez ahead of huge fight
In 2011, Chavez Jr became the WBC Middleweight champion after a controversial win over Sebastian Zbik, in which fans claimed Chavez Jr ‘stole’ the title.
And then in his first fight after becoming the champion, the Mexican almost sent his challenger through the ropes after scoring a huge TKO win.
Unfortunately for Chavez Jr, though, just a year later he was dominantly beaten by Sergio Martinez, despite almost pulling off a final round comeback, losing his title.
A few years later after back-to-back wins, Chavez Jr was matched up against Canelo Alvarez in a huge number one contender fight.
Ahead of their huge blockbuster fight, Chavez Jr and Canelo took part in a lot of pre-fight media in an attempt to build up the fight. During an interview on a Spanish-speaking US TV show, Chavez Jr and Canelo shook hands on a huge pre-fight bet that would see the winner of the fight take home both purses.
Canelo was rumoured to be making $36 million from the fight, with Chavez Jr having been rumoured to take home around $9 million.
The idea was initially brought up by Chavez Jr and it was quickly agreed to by Canelo who claimed he ‘will win’, making the pot even sweeter for him.
Canelo went on to utterly dominate the former WBC Middleweight champion, embarrassing him over 12 rounds to earn himself a shot at several middleweight titles.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr already has four-man hit list in mind
Ahead of his fight against ‘The Problem Child’, the 39-year-old has admitted that he already has four potential opponents in mind for his next fight as he looks to continue on in the sport.
Chavez Jr named light heavyweight stars, Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev as potential fights, as well as Jai Opetaia and Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez, with the Mexican clearly targeting another world title.
